plaid live in a bubble.

ed handley and andy turner are plaid and the "bubble" is really their north london studio.

ed and andy are old school friends. in early 1989, they met up with ken downie and formed black dog productions. the black dog was a collective name; the three members worked under different pseudonyms - alone or in different combinations. the group went on to release three albums; bytes (warp) temple of transparent balls (GPR) and spanners(warp). ed, andy and ken decided to separate after the release of spanners in january 1995.

after the split ed and andy reverted to their "collective" name plaid. "undoneson "is not their first outing under this name, plaid's debut album was released in 1991. it was titled "mbuki mvuki" it's a bantu phrase meaning - "dance so hard you take your clothes off". the second plaid release came several years later.in 1995 ed and andy released "the plaid ep" on clear. this single included two tracks off the debut album - "anything" and "yak" along with new material; "android" and "angry dolphin"

after the release on clear, plaid spent several months touring with björk. they played as part of her band as well as a support act on the australasia leg of her world tour. they also spent plenty of time in the bubble remixing and producing a shelf-full of artists including; funki porcini, nav katze, as one, björk, acacia, mind over rhythm, red snapper, gregory fleckner, nicollette, and of course, working on their own music.

"undoneson" was plaid's first release for warp. it preceded the "not for threes" album which was released in october 1997. the album features several collaborations including tracks with björk and nicollette.
