Grizzly Bear :: Yellow House out now

Incoming

broadcast packshot

broadcast trish

Yellow House is finally here. Think of classic Americana, the timeless arrangements of epic Disney scores, Brian Wilson and his imaginative collaborator Van Dyke Parkes, Love's acid-baked Calfornian psychedelia, beautiful harmonies, baroque, oceanic instrumentation and subtle electronics. Songs which twist and evolve effortlessly into one of the most intricate and beautiful albums Warp has ever released.

The sublime TV on the Radio have asked them on their US tour (see Warp Live below for a full list of dates), Dntel, Soft Pink Truth and Arial Pink queued up to remix them, and the press response to the album has been astounding.

“excellent and diverse… deserves to reach an audience beyond those already seduced by… Animal Collective and Sufjan Stevens” The Times
"soars over the high bar of expectations set by Horn Of Plenty" The Guardian
“anyone can fall in love with this album.” I Guess I’m Floating
“one of the year's best records” Pitchfork

The first of the series of digital singles leading up to the release of the Hello Everything album is out now and Welcome To Europe is the perfect taster of the record’s overwhelmingly upbeat and direct personality. We dare say the high quality downloads available from Bleep are capable of tearing up a few dancefloors too.

We can also reveal that the album will be released in a special edition including a bonus CD. We were hoping to fill you in a bit more this month, but unfortunately you’re going to have to wait a bit longer. We’re such teases.

Clark :: 2nd free mp3 on throttleclark.com

Clark

Free download number 2 is now up on www.throttleclark.com. This time it’s a brand new Clark track Dead Shark Eyes.

If you haven’t got round to downloading the Broadcast collaboration, it’s still there too.

Oh, have we mentioned Body Riddle is immense yet?

London Sinfonietta :: New site + out soon

Grizzly Bear

The Warp Works & Twentieth Century Masters double CD compilation is released on 18th September.

Recorded live at some of the acclaimed concerts that delighted audiences all around the world, the album forms a unique and absolutely vital summary of the most visionary experimental artists of the last 100 years. Without them the world would undoubtedly be a more formulaic and uninspiring place.

There is also a show (the first in a year) in Paris on 23 September – see Warp Live below for details.

The beautiful official site for images, music and more demands your attention too.

Warp X :: Darklight, women direct horror

NOW

In 100 years of cinema history, how many female horror directors can you name? What is it about this incredibly successful worldwide genre that either excludes, or fails to appeal to women directors?

Warp X, in partnership with Threshold Studios, has established a unique training and production initiative to encourage women directors to develop their horror ideas through residential workshops and with specialised script editing and mentoring support. At least two of the ideas developed through the programme will be produced by low budget digital studio Warp X in 2008.

Warp will release Push Door To Exit by Alexander's Annexe early November. The live contemporary ensemble formed by Mira Calix, David Shepard and acclaimed pianist, Sarah Nicholls have performed pieces around the world, and this will be the first thing committed to disc.

We can all also look forward to a brand new Mira Calix solo record too, which is in the pipeline for early 2007.

Elsewhere

It’s been a while since we had one of these sections in our monthly transmissions to you, as we usually leave it to the Warpmart guys to fill you in on those non-Warp essentials. This month though there are a couple of things we think are worthy of your attention.

Junior Boys

It’s been a year to remember for Domino Records, and with the Junior Boys album So This Is Goodbye they have their finest of 2006. Out 11 September, it follows their debut long-player Last Exit, which rode on a wave of early internet blog acclaim to be one of this decade’s key sleeper hits.

The crisp, spacious beats betray a love of Detroit but it’s the contrast between this and Jeremy Greenspan’s smooth vocals which is the masterstroke. With each track, the band manages to tease a real soul and longing out of their machines; with time, the addictive melodies seep under your skin.

And we’d recommend seeing them live when they support Hot Chip for an electro-pop extravaganza in the UK this October, before a full US tour later this year.

Milanese

Extend, the new album from Milanese, also drops on 11 September on Planet Mu, and as the Dead Man Walking 12” suggests, is heavy.

He will be playing an album launch show at Plastic People, London on 21 September alongside our very own Clark (see Warp Live below), and there’s also music to download and play with at his official site
