Born
Ruffians
Warp New York will release the self-titled ep from the exceedingly hotly-tipped Born Ruffians on 17th October in North America. Already causing a huge stir over there, their personal and incredibly contagious pop songs are destined to be huge in the not-too-distant future. The band are in the UK for live shows at the moment, before heading back to their native Canada in September. All details in Warp Live below. Myspace/bornruffians London Sinfonietta & WarpThe first concert in over a year from this groundbreaking collaboration takes place in Paris on Saturday 23rd September at Cité de la Musique for an evening of boundary-blurring musical juxtapositions. Get tickets from the official site. This will follow the celebratory double CD album release (18th September) of Warp Works & 20th Century Masters, which features recordings of previous sold-out shows and compositions by Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Steve Reich, Ligetti, Stockhausen and more. London Sinfonietta Warp Films: This Is England This Is England, the newest film from director Shane Meadows, will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 12th Sept 2006. Starring Stephen Graham (Snatch, Gangs Of New York) and newcomer Thomas Turgoose, the film tells the story of Shaun an 11-year-old kid growing up in the North of England in the early 1980s. It charts his rites of passage from a shaggy haired ruffian into a shaven headed thug, whose anger and pain over the death of his father in the Falkland's War are embraced by the local skinhead fraternity and ultimately the National Front. The film will also screen at the Rome Independent Film Festival in October and at the London Film Festival in November. |
