Battles

Incoming

We are delighted to announce the newest addition to the Warp roster. You may have come across Battles as a highlight of Sonar 2005, or supporting Prefuse 73 on the US and European tours. Either way, we can safely assume that anyone who has witnessed one of their phenomenal live shows will acutely remember the experience.

Formed in NYC in 2002, Battles have somewhat tritely been termed a 'supergroup' of alt. rock. However, when you look at their line-up you can understand why. Ian Williams (Don Caballero), John Stanier (Helmet, Tomahawk), Dave Konopka (Lynx) and Tyondai Braxton (Prefuse 73 collaborator and notorious avant-jazz solo musician) have forged a genre of their own across just a handful of EPs. As the band themselves state, “Battles can do what it wants.”

Warp will collate the aforementioned EPs as a newly packaged release in February 2006 ahead of an album of new material later in the year. Battles play at the ATP weekender in December and will be on tour in the US and Europe in the spring.

Jackson

TLS

The word is undoubtedly spreading about Jackson's stunning debut album Smash and its antique futurist aural collisions. So much so that Jackson is supporting LCD Soundsystem on their sold-out December tour of the UK, bringing his ever-improving live show to major venues. The wonderful Hot Chip are also on the bill.

The brand new website is live at last too at
www.jacksonandhiscomputerband.com.

Finally, we have a very limited number of rare original Utopia 12”s available in Warpmart. A France-only release in 2003, it has a slightly extended version of ‘Utopia’ and is backed with ‘Radio Caca’ and the track ‘Appendice’ which you may not have heard. Perfect for playing loud.

Warp Book

TLS

Warp Records is the focus of a brand new book. Written by Rob Young of The Wire, and with contributions from Adrian Shaughnessy, Warp is the first in a series of 'Labels Unlimited' publications that are intended to catalogue the history and impact on music of the most influential independent labels.

Fully illustrated with a complete discography and artist A-Z, it is a beautiful thing and like our very own This Is Your Life.

Gravenhurst

Fresh from a hugely successful tour of the US with Broadcast, Gravenhurst is back in Europe in December with a collection of new dates. The show in London on December 9th is a special Tiscali Showcase event which will be filmed for streaming on the Tiscali site HERE . Look out for it online.

Full gig details are in Warp Live below.

In the meantime, Gravenhurst's blog
well worth the look.

Maximo Park

Maximo Park will follow four top 20 singles by headlining the 2006 NME Awards Tour in January / February next year. Support comes from Arctic Monkeys, We Are Scientists and Mystery Jets.

Jamie Lidell

Following his barnstorming sold-out show at Scala, Jamie Lidell is back behind the machines at Fabric in London on 10th December. If that prospect wasn't enough, the ever-magnificent Matthew Herbert is also on the bill, as well as Fabric stalwart Craig Richards. Well worth heading to Farringdon for.

Jamie has contributed his first remix for ages to a new compilation of Otto Von Schirach remixes. Chris Clark also contributes to an album of remixes of legendary drummer Glen Velez.
Both albums are only available to download via Bleep here

Prefuse 73

The new mini-album by Guillermo Scott Herron is entitled 'Security Screenings'. An accompaniment to the acclaimed Surrounded By Silence (and including the much talked-about collaborations with Kieran Hebden and Babatunde Adebimpe from TV On The Radio), it is a more instrumental, sound-based and transitional record in a similar vein to Extinguished Outtakes. Scheduled for a February release.

Warp Films 'This Is England'

'This Is England', the second Warp Films feature as directed by Shane Meadows, has now finished shooting. An uncompromising look at the rise of the National Front in the 1980's, it follows an 11-year old boy as he becomes increasingly immersed in the skinhead movement. The film is currently being edited for release sometime in 2006 via Optimum Releasing, so keep an eye out.
