Full DVD info and tracklisting

“..Warp has always embraced the (video) medium with a will. At times, it is not just a question of whether the videos do justice to the music but vice versa. It’s a truism often uttered that much electronica is the soundtrack to imaginary movies. Many of these videos are the fragments of films that will never be made… Chris Cunningham’s take on Autechre’s Second Bad Vilbel (like Alex Rutterford’s visualization of Gantz Graf) is like an exact transcription of the synaptic sensations and mental image blasts triggered by the soundtrack… Broadcast’s ‘Papercuts’ is a delectable visual and musical transmission from the lost perfect pop satellite of 196X; Beans and Antipop Consortium’s cuts are bright, primary and upfront re-visions from scratch of what HipHop could and should be, while Jamie Lidell perfectly deconstructs his sleazy pop persona in set pieces on Daddy’s Car and The City..” (David Stubbs in The Wire)

With superb packaging by The Designers Republic, the first worldwide pressing of the DVD also includes a bonus audio disc featuring a super-evolved 1 hour Warp mix by DJs Buddy Peace & ZILLA, so make sure to bag a copy soon.

We have teamed up with the internationally renowned RESFEST Digital Film Festival and Lumin for a series of WarpVision live events. Kicking off in London this Friday with an exclusive screening at the NFT and a party on HMS President, the tour carries on to Sheffield, Glasgow, Bristol, Dublin and Nottingham, featuring screenings and performances by Warp artists and DJs. Full information and lineups here London tickets in Warpmart
There are also two separate megaraves in Amsterdam and Berlin courtesy of LittleBig that are not to be missed – the biggest Warp events in both cities for ages !

The original Warp vs Creative Review digital animation competition in 2002 was a huge success, and with 4 of those winners on the WarpVision DVD its an appropriate moment to announce the 2004 edition.

“Really good dancefloor mess-making from Arcola graduate Milanese…a devastating digital grime-core sound… “1 Up” veers from decimated cut-up 2-step variations to teeth-grinding clean and uncompromising junglist juggling.. one of the best Warp releases for the floor in a long time. Ayyyye!” (Boomkat.com)

We are running a competion to win Milanese’s ‘specially modified’ drum machine, all the details on this and the album HERE

Squarepusher - Ultravisitor

Home Video’s new record Citizen is out on 4th October. Originally concieved in New Orleans, Home Video took form amongst the diverse hard-partying cultural disco of Brooklyn, New York where they wrote and recorded and caught the ear of Warp. Their debut EP That You Might was released back in May, to great acclaim amongst a diverse range of Radio and experimental dancefloor DJs. Citizen builds on this, representing a cross section of their developing sound and offers a taste of things to come with their album due in 2005.

Dead Man's Shoes

Savath & Savalas

Savath & Savalas

Dead Man’s Shoes is released this week - the first full-length feature from Warp Films and the brainchild of writer/director Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine who collaborated on this semi-improvised, axe-wielding revenge thriller. So far the film has received nothing less than rave reviews across the board, and is being heralded as a landmark in British cinema.

Dead Man’s Shoes Original Soundtrack is released on Warp on 4th October - personally selected by Shane Meadows and central to the film it includes (Smog), The Earlies, Calexico, Adem, Gravenhurst, and Clayhill while Laurent Garnier’s fantastically fucked-up, rhythmic-drone centrepiece ‘Forgotten Thoughts’ accompanies the film’s ‘acid scene’ as the lead character Richard spikes his nemeses’ tea kettle with a lethal psychotropic cocktail... A new single is released on 1st Nov. New songs Showbiz Shotguns and Feast continue the vibe of the album - ‘dredged from a swamp in the dead of night’ as Time Out put it.
“the duo’s most arresting album yet… the same backstreet menace and flashes of poignancy as Haunted Dancehall” 4/5 The Guardian “love and sex become entwined with madness and violence… you can almost hear the drunken ghost of post punk, demented and decayed, rattling through the halls” Telegraph

Gravenhurst

The new EP from Gravenhurst is released on 1st November. Black Holes in the Sand
magnifies the sonic elements and undercurrent of lyrical dread from album Flashlight Seasons, but with a title song more as immediate and approachable as anything on. The rural elements are extended with the epic 'Flowers in Her Hair', then stretched to breaking point with a cover of Hüsker Dü's ‘Diane’, reinterpreting a punk classic as a murder ballad. After a successful tour with Domino’s Juana Molina, Gravenhurst tours the UK in October.See live dates below.

Guest Review of the month

Dido ‘Sand in my shoes’
‘You’d think it’d be bland. But this wistful remembrance of a holiday romance is so mind-numbingly prosaic that returning to real life afterwards takes on the character of an acid trip. Next to this the theme to ‘This Morning’ is a Merzbow B-side and a re-run of ‘Cold Feet’ becomes the grand guignol of Dario Argento’s nightmares’. (Mike Shallcross in Time Out
