Launch August’s Audio Selection

The servers at Bleep towers are swollen and bulbous with new digital catalogue at the moment.
We are extremely chuffed to have Bjork’s back catalogue available through Bleep plus her new album Medulla featuring an extra song KomiÖ , exclusive to Bleep and the Japanese edition.

The other big news is the arrival of Domino Records. Check out latest releases from Clinic and Franz Ferdinand (new single Michael featuring a digital exclusive track) plus a legendary back catalogue ranging from Mouse on Mars to Pavement to Four Tet. Also recently added are Matthew Herbert’s Accidental label and the Soundslike / Lifelike imprints; the new Mouse On Mars album with some exclusive single versions ; and acclaimed releases from Junior Boys, Ai records and Hand on the Plow.

Mira Calix

Mira Calix releases 3 Commissions on Sept 6th, a mini album featuring pieces specifically commissioned from her by Geneva's Musee d' Histoire Naturelle, London's Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican. The record includes the original and the live orchestral versions of Nunu, her work exploring the interplay between human and insect musical worlds, plus a piece originally installed in the Barbican’s conservatory during the gallery’s reopening.

For the original NuNu, Mira Calix was commissioned to compose a piece of music using recordings of insect noises provided by the Musee d' Histoire Naturelle. The orchestral version and Mira Calix then made their live debut together at the RFH in March 2003 as part of the Ether Festival where she performed the track with living insects on stage in a collaboration with The London Sinfonietta. This interplay between live insects and the neo-classical strains of The Sinfonietta is also captured on the album. The third commission is from earlier this year, when she was asked to compose a piece for the reopening of the Barbican's art gallery. An installation in the conservatory adjoining the gallery space, Le Jardin de Barbican ran in a continuous loop with speakers hidden among the tropical plants.

Warp Vision

On September 27th Warp release our first-ever DVD collection, featuring the best of all the Warp videos from 1989 to the present day that (with the notable exceptions of Gantz_Graf and Chris Cunningham's promos) have never seen a DVD release until now. The disc includes work from Chris Cunningham, Alex Rutterford and David Slade alongside directors such as Lynn Fox, Pleix, Ed Holdsworth and Laurent Briet who since their work for Warp have become some of the hottest talents in the industry. Nestling amongst the better-known videos are some lost classics and rarely-seen gems from the likes of The Designers Republic, Jamie Lidell, John Callaghan and Jimi Tenor.

With deluxe packaging by The Designers Republic, the DVD also includes a bonus audio disc featuring a super-evolved Warp mix put together by London-based DJs Buddy Peace and ZILLA. Continuing the tradition established by DJ Food’s legendary Blech mixes in the 90’s and making full use of studio trickery, this is a superb collage of Warped tracks and beats.

Preorders at Warpmart from 1st September (exclusive free giveaways) and a new site at warprecords.com/vision coming soon.

Milanese

TLS

1 Up, the new 6 track mini-album by Milanese is released on 27th Sept. Cut onto loud double vinyl and CD, this is 6 tracks of "jungle / garage / ragga / house / techno. Mashed up robot music, basically", according to the man himself. A native Londoner now based in sunny Birmingham, Milanese made his debut with the 12" Arcola release Vanilla Monkey. If that 12" was a masterful slice of 4/4 main room techno, 1Up takes a turn for the grimier side - from the digital dub holocaust of Billy Hologram, jungle destruction on So Malleable, the clash and clatter breakbeats of Flex plus the occasional vocal eruption guaranteed to scare the living daylights out of any nearby small children.

Milanese plays live at Wang on Saturday September 4th (plus album giveaways, Plaid, Baby Ford, Rob Hall, and more) at legendary acid house rave caves The Dungeons. See Warp live below for full details.

Beans

Beans is back with an all-new supercharged single and power-packed album.
The Down By Law single is released on 20th September, with the Shock City Maverick album to follow on 25th October. With red-hot production contributions from Mark Pritchard (Reload/Global Communication/Jedi Knights..) as well Beans' own Beats, the album takes up where Beans last record (the superb Now, Soon, Someday) left off, and moves restlessly onwards, melding raw electronics, futuristic soul, and mind-bending lyrical wordplay.

Home Video Tour

Home Video release a new record Citizen EP in October. The band tour Europe through September and October, culminating in a massive show at Hackney Empire (London’s stunning multi tiered Victorian music hall, recently reopened and completely renovated) on October 9th, see full info on all dates in the live section below.

Dead Man's Shoes and Film OST

October 4th sees the release of Dead Man’s Shoes, the first full-length feature from Warp Films. A genre-defying film pitching horror and the supernatural against comedy and social realism, Dead Man’s Shoes is the brainchild of writer/director Shane Meadows (24/7, A Room for Romeo Brass) and actor/screenwriter Paddy Considine (Last Resort, 24 Hour Party People, Room For Romeo Brass, In America) who collaborated on this semi-improvised, axe-wielding revenge thriller. The film premiered at Edinburgh Festival last week, receiving rave reviews.
Read the verdict here

Personally selected by Shane Meadows, the soundtrack is central to the film. Released on Warp in October, it includes (Smog), The Earlies, Calexico, Adem, Gravenhurst, and Clayhill while Laurent Garnier’s fantastically fucked-up, rhythmic-drone centrepiece ‘Forgotten Thoughts’ accompanies the film’s ‘acid scene’ as the vigilante lead character, Richard, spikes his nemeses’ tea kettle with a lethal psychotropic cocktail...

Savath and Savalas

After the acclaimed album Apropa’t released in January, a captivating performance at America’s Coachella festival and a lengthy US tour that showcased the finest in modern Spanish music, Savath & Savalas (aka Scott Herren and Eva Puyeulo Muns) return with the eight-track Mañana on 11th October. Eva’s stunning vocals are present once again, providing a foil to Herren’s mix of electronic and organic atmospheres that continuing to demonstrate his breadth as both a songwriter and producer.
