Mira Calix Mira Calix releases 3 Commissions on Sept 6th, a mini album featuring pieces specifically commissioned from her by Geneva's Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, London's Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican. The record includes the original and the live orchestral versions of Nunu, her work exploring the interplay between human and insect musical worlds, plus a piece originally installed in the Barbicans conservatory during the gallerys reopening. There will be a launch party for 3 Commissions at London's Hayward Gallery on 20 August, with Mira Calix performing the 2 versions of Nunu, alongside Andrea Parker, Plaid and Mark Broom Djing on the rooftop. Admission Free (see below) Warp VisionOn September 27th Warp release our first-ever DVD collection, featuring the cream of all the Warp videos ever from 1989 to the present day that, with the exceptions of Gantz_Graf and Chris Cunningham's promos, have never seen a DVD release until now. The disc includes work from Chris Cunningham, Alex Rutterford and David Slade alongside directors such as Lynn Fox, Pleix, Ed Holdsworth and Laurent Briet who since their work for Warp have become some of the hottest talents in the industry. Nestling amongst the better-known videos are some lost classics and rarely-seen gems from the likes of The Designers Republic (Opto-Scientific from last year's Vasarely Foundation festival) Sabres of Paradise, Jamie Lidell, John Callaghan and Jimi Tenor. Several more extras and sections TBA.MilaneseAfter the awesome Vanilla Monkey 12” on Arcola, Milanese releases a mini album 1 Up on Warp proper on September 6th. Based in Birmingham UK, Milanese's speciality is “fusing elements of electro-acoustic music with mad beats and bass” - the result is a slamming hybrid of jungle, grimy techno, dubstep, and Hecker-Haswell style noise and twisted vocal bursts, cut onto loud double vinyl and CD. Milanese plays live at the Shockout Night on Thursday 29th July, London.Warp FilmsWarp Films first feature is Shane Meadows' Dead Man's Shoes Starring Paddy Considine, (24hr Party People, In America, My Wrongs.. ..) the film premieres at Edinburgh Film Festival in August. Details on the Edinbugh site .Chris Cunningham has committed to Warp Films for all future full-length film projects, with a feature-length script with Warp currently in development. The long-awaited short film, Rubber Johnny is scheduled for released in late 2004. Spectral Musicians another short form film will also be released later this year. . Boat PartyThe Dutch Master. Sounds like a sex toy? Wrong. It's a boat, and we're having a party in it on 19th August. Down the river Thames and back again with the likes of Luke Vibert, Plaid, Ceephax and more at the controls.
